Welcome
Welcome to the English section of D66 Amsterdam, the local faction of the political party Democrats 66 ("D66"). To reach the international community we provide this English webpage to provide tailored information for our international community. For instance did you know that if you are a national of an EU-member state you can vote in the local elections?! Or as non-EU citizen who has resided in Holland for more than five years as well!?
Check out www.canivote.nl to find out if you are allowed to vote om March 3rd.
What we do
Currently, the D66 group in the city council consists of two members: Ivar Manuel (group leader) and Petra Hoogerwerf.
The past years D66 has been in the the opposition, countering a coalition of PvdA and GroenLinks. In doing so D66 is critical yet constructive, which results in the following:
D66 strives for a balance between safety and freedom
-
on our proposal residents not only will be asked if they feel safe, but also if they feel free to act and think
-
camera-surveillance and searching by police should only be used if proven that it contributes to safety
D66 sees people as individuals and trusts them to make their own judgment
-
the same-sex marriage is a proposal of D66
-
government shouldn't want to regulate everything by rules and restrictions
D66 works on a warm welcome for expats in Amsterdam:
- the Expatcenter is one of our proposals and should offer all information on living and working in Amsterdam
- Bilingual public transport was initiated by D66
- easier access to the housing market
- bilingual standards for municipal communications
D66 improves safety and education standards in schools
- smaller schools
- excellent schools spread throughout the city
- more international education
D66 works on a basis of input and participation
influence on your local environment
